Awards are not just a way to recognise creativity and hard work, they’re also considered an important benchmarking process, something that keeps and pushes the standards higher every year.
For nominees and winners the satisfaction of being recognised as best in category is one thing, the publicity and increase in business that award winning can achieve is another pleasure altogether.
The marketing and advertising businesses have quite a selection of awards, something for everyone in every respect. Here are some of the main awards, who they are aimed at, who should apply, how and when to apply and some of the IDMA winners in recent years.

With categories like Industry Impact, Smartest Fundraising, Smartest International, Smartest Doordrop, Smartest Direct Mail there is room for everyone to apply.
Traditionally IDMA members have done very well at these awards with DMCM, Javelin Direct, RRD Creative, Publicis D, Ignition and Puca all taking home the coveted bronze, silver and gold foxes.
Run by the Irish Marketing Institute the awards are another of the high profile ceremonies that make late Spring a busy time for tuxedos in Irish Marketing and Advertising circles.

The APMC is the representative body for promotional marketing in Ireland and their Star Awards are “premier league for the promotional marketing industry in Ireland”
The top award winners in each category will be eligible to enter the IMCC European Federation of Sales Promotion ‘Best of Europe’ Awards and the MAA GLOBES international Awards programme.
The Media Awards are open to media suppliers and owners, media buying and planning agencies, and advertising sales houses, operating in all areas of the media including print, digital, outdoor, TV, radio and cinema.
Categories include Best Use of Media, Best Use of Data / Analytics and Media Brand of the Year.

Essentially aimed at advertising agencies the awards take place every two years. The next one will take place in 2016.

The most relaxed and boho awards ceremony of them all The Shark Awards festival prides itself on celebrating “free thinkers and brave ideas” and it rewards campaigns in film, radio, digital, design, print/outdoor/ambient, promo and media.
Truly international, last year’s winners for example came from the UK to Brazil (via Ireland) including IDMA member Publicis.
Submissions will close on August 8th 2015 and the festival takes place Sept 10th to 12th
The tagline is “Recognising excellence in internet & digital media”. “The eircom Spider awards are considered an important benchmark for distinction and excellence in web-based business strategies.” They will be held in November and with categories from Best App to Retail excellence and Digital Future Star all areas of digital excellence are covered.
Submission deadline is October 8th 2015 and the awards will take place on November 20th in the Convention Centre in Dublin.
Since 2003 this has been one of the broadest awards with categories that seek to embrace any and every area of digital media. The Awards are open to all organisations, businesses, communities, schools and individuals, “from app/game developers and digital/integrated media marketers, to students, educational/financial companies, start ups and more!”
Turning six this year the Appys celebrate the very best in this very fast growing sector, both apps and developers. The 2015 event is yet to be finalised.
